Spiritual Symposium Announced at Nashville Hamere Noah Kidane Meheret and St. Michael Church
Finote Media (March 12, 2026)
It has been announced that a two-day spiritual symposium has been organized at the Nashville Hamere Noah Saint Kidane Meheret and Saint Michael Church in Nashville, Tennessee. Following the faith, traditions, and canons of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church, the event marks the feast of Debre Zeit, the midpoint of the Great Lent. The symposium is scheduled to take place this coming Sunday, March 14 and Monday, March 15, 2026 with guest preachers and hymnists (zemariyan) confirmed to participate.
In the teachings of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church, it is well known that each Sunday of the Great Lent, from the first Sunday until Easter (Tensae), has a specific commemoration and designation. Accordingly, the 5th week is called Debre Zeit (Mount of Olives); this signifies the location where our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ spoke regarding the destruction of the Temple, the end of the world, and His Second Coming.
Furthermore, it is believed that this location houses the Cave of Elewon, where He would spend the night after teaching in the cities and countryside during the day. Additionally, it is on this mountain that He ascended to heaven, and prophecy foretells that His Second Coming will also be manifested upon this same mountain.
Beyond this, the 5th week of Debre Zeit is recognized by followers of the faith as the "midpoint of the fast".
